Plan a Cabuya day trip from Santa Teresa around Cabo Blanco, Indigena chocolate and the cemetery island, with tide, opening-day and road checks.

Cabuya makes sense as a day trip when you choose one main activity and leave room for the village and coast. It is a base for the Cabuya entrance to Cabo Blanco, home to Indigena's chocolate experience and the mainland approach to the cemetery island. Those three visits have different timing constraints.
Choose the Anchor of Your Day
| Main Activity | Check Before Leaving |
|---|---|
| Cabo Blanco | Opening day, trail access, admission and return deadline |
| Indigena chocolate | Reserved session, opening hours and workshop format |
| Cemetery island | Local conditions, tide and a suitable return window |
Do not make the island crossing the automatic final stop after a long hike. Its access depends on water conditions, and a timetable that fits the reserve may not fit the crossing. Enjoying the coast from the mainland remains a valid alternative.
Cabo Blanco From Cabuya
Check the reserve's current information through SINAC and the entrance. SINAC's published hours document lists Wednesday through Sunday, 8am to 4pm; treat the actual day's trail status and last admission as questions for the reserve. A closing time is not permission to start a long trail just before it.
Choose a walk suited to your group, carry water and wear appropriate footwear. Stay on permitted trails and give wildlife space. The forest is not a place to feed a monkey or create a close-up encounter.
A Chocolate Visit
Indigena advertises a bean-to-bar experience, tasting and making your own chocolate bar. Its contact page lists Wednesday through Sunday, 9am to 4pm. Reserve the actual experience and confirm the price, duration, language and any dietary requirements.
The opening hours are not a promise that a workshop starts whenever you arrive. Ask how the session fits with the rest of your day. If someone has an allergy, discuss ingredients and handling directly before booking a tasting.
Getting There and Returning
Ask your accommodation or driver which road is suitable now, especially after rain. Do not choose a rough shortcut solely because a map shows a shorter journey. Agree on the return pickup and send the meeting pin before mobile coverage becomes an issue.
Bring what you need without leaving valuables in a parked vehicle. Leave time for the return journey and a change of plan. If a reserve trail closes or the island crossing is inappropriate, the day does not need another risky activity to be worthwhile.
FAQ
Can I do all three activities in one day?
Only if the reserve, workshop reservation, transport and island conditions genuinely fit. Choose the main activity first.
Is Indigena closed only on Mondays?
Its current contact page lists Wednesday through Sunday opening. Reconfirm the day you want.
Is the cemetery island always reachable at low tide?
No. Get local advice about the crossing and return; the tide alone does not establish safety.
Should I make the island the last stop after a hike?
Only if current conditions and the return window genuinely fit. Choose the main activity first and keep a mainland alternative for an unsuitable crossing.
