What is known about Christmas and New Year's Eve 2026/27 in Santa Teresa as of October 2026: the venues that threw parties last year and what they charged, holiday rate jumps, what sells out, traffic and what the town is like that week.
As of 9 October 2026, no Santa Teresa venue has published a New Year's Eve 2026/27 price or line-up, so this guide separates what is confirmed for this year from what happened last season. Last season Ranchos Itaúna sold a room plus two party tickets for $399, Banana Beach Club ran an all-night party until sunrise, and Ranchos charged $200 to $250 a night for holiday rooms from 20 December to 6 January. Rooms are the thing to book now.
The short version
Christmas to the first week of January is the busiest and most expensive stretch of the Santa Teresa year. It is also the one week where accommodation sells out before the parties are even announced, which is why you book the room in October and buy the party ticket in November or December. Three things hold every year: 31 December 2026 falls on a Thursday, prices rise 40 to 50 percent at the one place that publishes a holiday rate, and the town runs on one road with a limited supply of taxis and rental vehicles.
What is announced for 2026/27: nothing for the parties. I found Ranchos Itaúna's post for last season's party but no post for this one. The Principe del Pacifico apartments have already opened their Christmas and New Year 2026/27 block, per the site's monthly rentals guide. Everything else in this guide labelled "last season" describes the 2025/26 holiday and is the best predictor of the pattern, not a promise.
What I would do now: reserve rooms, book rental cars and chefs, join the venues' Instagram and WhatsApp lists, and wait for ticket releases. Read the best time to visit guide for the dry season context and the nightlife calendar for the normal weekly pattern.
The three parties that matter
Ranchos Itaúna
Ranchos Itaúna is the beachfront restaurant and cabinas that Costa Rica travel blogs name as the town's best New Year's Eve party, and it runs the Deep Tuesday sunset beach parties and the full moon parties the rest of the year. Its reservation line is WhatsApp +506 8822 8575, and its phone is +506 2640 0095.
Last season (the party that welcomed 2026), Ranchos advertised a premium buffet, a complimentary bottle of Champagne at the table for the first 50 reservations, and a dance floor led by Keene from Panama and Cacao Records, followed by local DJs Don Pedro, Don Vinicio and Moraleslowz. A Spanish language post from the same account was reported at $399 for two people including taxes: a Premium room, two tickets to the year-end party and buffet breakfast. The post no longer shows that price, so confirm it, and if you only want the party, ask for a ticket price. An older Ranchos video promised electronic music and a "midnight surprise" Danube waltz on the beach.
Who it suits: groups who want dinner, a table and a dance floor on the sand. The caveat: it is the most famous party and sells to a mixed crowd of travelers and residents, and the buffet is a set-piece, so do not expect an a la carte dinner.
Banana Beach Club
Banana Beach hosted a New Year's Eve beach party last season, promoted by Wonderland, with producer Darco on the lineup. The listing ran from 10pm on 31 December until sunrise, billed as the "most iconic" New Year's Eve in town for 24 years. Dress code was Tropical Chic, and the ticket page said tickets were limited and refunds applied only if the event was cancelled or rescheduled. The ticket page I opened showed no tiers or prices. A Facebook travel group post quoted a $300 per person tier with a live DJ set; treat it as an unverified upper figure.
Who it suits: people who want a long electronic night on the sand until sunrise. The caveat: a fire destroyed the beach club on 27 January 2026, a few weeks after that party, and it has been rebuilt, so ask whether the layout and capacity are the same this year, and expect a tourist-heavy crowd. The hotel next door, Banana Beach Hotel, has seven casitas sleeping three to seven people and sits steps from the party.
Uma Beachfront
Uma hosts a Friday DJ night through the year and bigger line-ups on holidays. It has run New Year's Eve beach parties for several years, with tickets sold through a link in its Instagram bio and VIP tables through the Get In ticketing page. It has not announced its 2026/27 party. Budget more than the $50 to $80 a head the beach clubs guide gives for a normal night, and ask for the table minimum before you pay.
Dinners at the hotels
Manzú at Nantipa (open daily 7am to 10pm) and Shambala at Tropico Latino (7am to 9pm) are the two beachfront dining rooms most likely to run a set menu on 31 December, but neither has published a New Year's Eve menu or price, last season or this one. Ask when you reserve. The date night guide covers Manzú's usual prices, and a dinner at either followed by a walk to the beach parties is the dressy way to do it.
Accommodation: minimum stays and price jumps
Published holiday rates are rare. The clearest is Ranchos Itaúna's own rate sheet. Outside the holidays, its November to April rates for one or two people with breakfast are $130 for a standard cabina, $140 for a cabina with a kitchen and $170 for the Rancho Caña suite. From 20 December to 6 January and at Easter, for one to four people with breakfast, the cabina is $200 and the Rancho Caña is $250. That is a rise of 43 to 54 percent, for a room that is already one of the cheaper beachfront options. Extra guests are $30 each.
Elsewhere, the site's earlier guides say the Christmas to New Year fortnight doubles prices, and the first rooms to go are the five-room and ten-villa boutique places: the best hotels guide recommends six months ahead for Nantipa, Mint and Fermata and two to three months for the rest. Minimum stays are common at the high end. Esencia Hotel and Villas lists a four night minimum in high season on a hotel review site, though the page is not dated. A Mr and Mrs Smith offer for OCiO described a peak season of 21 December to 5 January with stricter cancellation terms, again from a prior year. Ask every hotel for the minimum stay and the deposit schedule for 24 December to 2 January before you pay.
In practice: if your dates include 31 December, expect a multi-night minimum, a deposit and a rate well above November. The one published sheet shows 43 to 54 percent, and other sources describe up to double. Villas and apartments are the same; see the property management guide and the monthly rentals guide.
What sells out, and when to book
- Rooms: October for the whole stretch from 20 December to 3 January. The boutique hotels may already be full.
- Rental cars and quads: From mid-December to Easter, and especially the Christmas and New Year fortnight, 4x4s sell out weeks early. Book in October, per the car rental guide.
- Private chefs: The good ones are gone for Christmas and New Year by October, per the private chefs guide. A single dinner needs two to three weeks' notice.
- Party tickets and tables: Venues release them in November and December. Limited-ticket events like Banana Beach's say so on the page. Follow the venues' Instagram and buy early.
- Shuttles and the ferry: Book shared shuttles and the ferry ahead for the days holidaymakers leave, the week after Christmas and the first days of January. The Paquera ferry guide notes that extra sailings are added around Christmas and New Year, so check the timetable.
- Dinner tables: Reservations at the top restaurants for 24, 25 and 31 December.
Traffic and getting around
There is one road. It is dusty in the dry season, narrow, and carries every quad, taxi, delivery truck and shuttle on the peninsula. Expect slow going on it in the evenings over the holidays. Walk if you can.
Taxis are negotiated and in short supply on the night. The stand at the cruce empties by about 10pm outside high season, and December to April fares run $5 to $20 higher. Book a WhatsApp driver or Pantera Transportation (+506 8591 9555, 24 hours) for the return trip before you go out, and confirm it at the table. The taxis guide has fares. Do not ride a quad after drinking. The safety guide is blunt about why.
What the town is like that week
Busy, loud and expensive, and more fun than the rest of the year if you want people around you. Christmas week and New Year's are the most crowded stretch of the entire year. Restaurants run full tables, beach clubs fill by 5pm for sunset, and the surf lineup is crowded with holiday visitors. Surf Mal Pais or Hermosa early for space.
Fireworks: no municipal display has been announced for Santa Teresa. The parties and neighbours supply their own, so the midnight view depends on where you stand. Dry season means hot days, cool nights and wind in the afternoons.
If you want the opposite, quiet, go a week earlier or later, or to a hillside hotel in Mal Pais, and read the Mal Pais hotels guide. Browse hotels, bars and restaurants in the nightlife directory and check the events calendar for what gets posted.

FAQ
What is the best New Year's Eve party in Santa Teresa?
Ranchos Itaúna is the one travel blogs name as the town's signature party, with a buffet, Champagne at midnight and a DJ lineup. Banana Beach Club ran an all-night beach party until sunrise last season, and Uma runs a beach party with VIP tables. None had announced 2026/27 details as of 9 October 2026.
How much does New Year's Eve cost in Santa Teresa?
Last season Ranchos Itaúna sold a package of a Premium room, two party tickets and breakfast for $399 for two people, and its holiday rooms cost $200 to $250 a night. A Facebook post quoted $300 a person for a Banana Beach tier, unconfirmed. 2026/27 prices have not been published.
How far ahead should I book accommodation for New Year's?
Now. Book boutique hotels about six months ahead and everything else at least two to three months ahead, and expect minimum stays of several nights and non-refundable deposits. The holiday fortnight can double normal rates.
Is Santa Teresa good for New Year's Eve?
Yes, if you want beach parties, DJs and sunset crowds. It is not a fireworks town, and the roads and taxis are strained. If you want calm, stay on a hillside or in Mal Pais.
Are shops and restaurants open on Christmas and New Year's Day?
No list is published of who closes on 25 December and 1 January, so confirm hours when you book and stock up on groceries beforehand. The grocery shopping guide lists the supermarkets.
Will rental cars and shuttles be available?
Not without booking. 4x4s sell out weeks ahead for the holiday fortnight, and shuttles fill when holidaymakers leave. Reserve both in October.
