Sunset on a Monday
The sun goes down between about 5:15pm and 5:45pm all year, and the light is gone by 6:15pm in September, so there is no sleeping in on the sunset plan. The beach itself is the best seat and costs nothing. Walk down any access path off the main road, sit on the sand, and watch the last surfers silhouetted in the water. If you want a drink in your hand, Banana Beach is the Monday answer. It has lounge chairs and day beds on the sand, and the bonfire gets lit as the light drops. Arrive around 4:30pm if you want a chair near the front. Eat Street runs 2 for 1 drinks from 4pm to 6pm and sits on the main road, which makes it a decent warm up on the walk toward the beach.

Dinner: who is open and who is not
Monday thins the dinner list a little, and it also means you walk in without a reservation more often than on a Thursday or Saturday. The reliable rooms:
Katana is a garden restaurant 600 metres north of the Playa Carmen crossroads, dinner only, 5:30pm to 10pm. The menu is Asian fusion: pad thai, butter chicken, gyoza and rolls on the same page, which suits a table where nobody agrees. Expect $15 to $25 a person before drinks. It fills every night in high season, so send a message earlier in the day from December to April.
Amici opens 5:30pm to 10pm daily on the main road, on the Mal Pais side of the crossroads. House made pasta and wood oven pizza, around $17 to $27 for a pizza and $30 to $45 a person with wine. It is the easy family dinner.
Osa is a candle lit room on the Cobano road, open 4pm to 10pm daily, with a menu built around the day's catch. Mains run $15 to $25. Go early if you want the fish you read about.
Satori Sushi is open 11am to 11pm daily across from Hotel Tropico Latino, with a rooftop terrace. Rolls average about $12 each, and a table that orders freely can reach $100 for two, so order in rounds.

Closed or unreliable on Monday: Brukas, the hilltop restaurant above Mal Pais with the widest sunset view on the coast, is closed Mondays. It needs a quad on its steep road anyway, so it is a Tuesday to Sunday plan. Koji's is on a low season break until November 2026. The main event: Banana Beach
Banana Beach is a beachfront hotel, restaurant and bar. By its own description the restaurant is open until 1am, with live music every evening, a bonfire and 2 for 1 drinks. Mondays and Wednesdays are the nights people point to for the bigger party, with a DJ and a crowd that came out to dance rather than just have a beer. I would not promise you the format. The party night moves with the week, the swell and who is in town, so check the Banana Beach Instagram on the day before you plan a late night around it.
What to expect on a good Monday: a mix of surf school crowd, long stay expats and travellers who read that Monday has a party. It is tourist heavy and friendly, and a drink is easy to get. Cocktails run $10 to $14 on the strip, and the 2 for 1 cuts that roughly in half.
What to expect on a flat Monday: live music, a bonfire, a few tables and a bartender who has time to talk. That is still a good night. It ends well before 1am if the beach is empty.
Cost to get in: it is a restaurant and bar, so you pay for what you order. I have not seen a door charge for the standard Monday. A guest DJ is the exception, so ask.
A late option
Monday late is thin. Banana Beach stays open to 1am and is the only place that reliably carries a crowd. Kooks Smokehouse and Bar is open 10am to 10pm, so it is a dinner and a beer, not a late stop. Goma, the small bar behind Kooks with room for about 30, closes around 1am and is where I send people who want a cocktail and a conversation after Banana Beach has had enough of them.
Tikiliano keeps late hours Wednesday to Saturday, so Monday it is not your late night. If you want to dance until 2am, move the plan to a later night: Thursday or Saturday.
A quieter alternative
Drift is a restaurant, bar, deli market and art gallery in central Santa Teresa. The bar is open every day from 4pm to 10pm, later when there is live music or a special event. It is a dinner and cocktail stop that winds down around 10pm, not a club, and on a Monday it is relaxed enough to talk. Cocktails run about $12 to $15, and the board posts daily 2 for 1 specials.

Getting there and getting home
There is no Uber or Bolt in Santa Teresa. Your options are a taxi, which you arrange by message or ask your hotel to call, a quad or scooter you rent, or your own feet. The roads are dirt and unlit in stretches. Walking from Banana Beach to a stay a kilometre or two away is fine in company with a headlamp, and a bad idea alone after midnight or after a few drinks. If you rode a quad or scooter, do not ride it home after drinking. Leave it, take a taxi, collect it in the morning. High season versus green season
From December to April, Monday has a real crowd. Banana Beach fills, the bonfire has a ring of people, and you book Katana and Convivio ahead. The bar is easy to find a table at before 6pm and harder after 8pm.
In green season, roughly May to November, Monday is quiet and often better for it. Fewer tourists, shorter waits, and some kitchens trim their week. Some Mondays nothing is happening. The beach bar has live music and nine people in it, the bonfire is a small one, and everyone has gone to bed by 10pm. That is a normal Monday in Santa Teresa. The honest plan is a long dinner, a sunset on the sand, and an early night so you are up for the dawn session on Tuesday.
